Unfortunately, only registered Democrats can clean up the Democratic Party and only registered Republicans can clean up the Republican Party. The insiders, in both parties like things the way they are. Why shouldn’t they? They’re in control of our government and we are not. So, what can we do? We can join their party and take control. How?
First, examine the structure of the Republican and Democratic parties. They’re grass roots organizations based on Party Members in every neighborhood (voting district) electing two people (1 male and 1 female) to the party’s County Committees. The County Committee people are responsible for electing party officers, writing party bylaws and selecting party candidates. Collectively, they are the party. Party leaders try to hand- pick the County Committee people because Party leaders can’t be party leaders without the support of these neighborhood representatives.
Second, look at the big picture. We have dozens of movements around the state trying to clean up our government for their own purposes. We have a sizable portion of the voters who think, that their vote can’t make a difference, and we have 50% of the registered voters refusing to be affiliated with any political party. Together we represent ninety percent (90%) of NJ’s registered voters (Voter Turnout Note 1). That means that we out-number the party insiders 9-to-1.
Third, use the Voter's Org Wiki to create and share the information we need to know before we vote, it's an unbiased site to which each of us can add our own bits of knowledge, a site that each of can use to learn about the issues and candidates that pertain directly to us, for every elected office in the State, from school board to governor.
Fourth, agree on a set of goals for our common good and agree to vote as one until those goals have been accomplished.
Fifth, join together with our neighbors and select from amongst ourselves, four (4) people we can trust to represent us. Then vote to make them our Democratic and Republican County Committee People. It will be their job to:
Select party candidates who swear to represent us (or be punished)
Keep us informed of all political people and issues that directly concern us
Put our interests before those of the political party leaders
It is our job to:
Vote for these neighborhood representatives in a primary election
Vote for their selected candidates who are also sworn to represent us
If our neighborhood reps failed to represent us, we can walk down the street for a simple face-to-face (or face-to-fist) meeting.
The entire process will take most of us, less than four hours a year.
We are the people having Fun cleaning up NJ's governments
